Deciphering The Marriage Crunch

By Shirley Simmons The whole meaning behind the Marriage Crunch will vary depending on who you ask. The truth is that it can mean different things to different people. The author of the original article likely wanted to state the fact that more women were staying single longer and that many were choosing not to marry at all. The way the information was presented however was seen as being a little shady to some. Those who fear the influence of the media claim that the article was a ploy to try to change the way the world, or American women for that fact, looked at marriage and family. They wanted to either scare young women into marriage or to congratulate those independent women who never married. The latter was not likely their motive. Many theorists felt that Newsweek was likely trying to mold the shape of women and their plans and ideals. In fact, these same theorists claim that today the media and others are trying to dissuade women to get married young by telling them to finish college first. So, when it comes to deciphering the Marriage Crunch it really depends on personal theory and opinion. It is possible that the article was not meant to be as controversial or impacting as it ended up being. However, the fact is that the message was somewhat irresponsible and untactful. The writing could have been a little more politically correct and less offensive overall. If it were though, it may not be remembered today. Read about the marriage crunch in asian society. The Truth About Weight Loss: The 6 Biggest Myths About Dieting!

By Kurt Hurley All of our behavior results from the thoughts that preceded it, so the thing to work on is not your behavior, but the thing that caused your behavior, your thoughts. - Dr. Wayne Dyer Let me preface this article with the notion that I truly, indeed detest the word diet, but for simplicities sake Ill use it! The stark reality is that sometimes eating too little can be a literal roadblock in attaining a lean fit and healthy body. Eating less in daily calories (food/nutrients), than your minimum metabolic needs causes your body to burn muscle and store fat. This is what is called the ‘Starvation Metabolism’ response, where the body, when deprived of adequate calories, will adapt to need fewer calories to function. As a result, dieters often regain the weight they lose almost immediately because they have starved their body into becoming a “fat-storing machine.” Sadly the truth! For most of its history, the human race was subject lock, stock and smoking barrel to the whims and fancies of dear old Mother Nature, especially where our nutritional needs were concerned. When the conditions were right, food was plentiful; when they were not, the populace starved. As a result, evolution shaped our progenerators bodies in such a way that during times of plenty, they were able to pack on layers of fat to provide them with the sustenance they needed to get through the lean timesnot the fit times, the LEAN times! And as evolution would have it, humans became adept at mastering their environment, nevertheless, famines grew rare, and the built-up fat reserves often went unused; our ability to manipulate the environment had exceeded nature’s slow practice of adaptation. At present, obesity is pervasive in wealthy nations like the U.S. So what in the heck happened to moderation and balance? Particularly impacted are those of us of European and Eastern African origin, whose forbearers needed bodies that could efficiently manufacture fat reserves to outlast the periodic famines. As a direct result, many of us have become corpulent, mostly because it’s hard for us to fight the natural tendencies of our bodies to accumulate fat. Currently, some 64% of Americans are overweight and more than one third are obese. With that being said, as contemporary living human beings, we don’t have to allow nature to get the leg up on us (nature nurture then nurture nature). Being overweight and more specifically, over-fat isn’t healthy, especially for those of us who suffer from conditions like hypertension, diabetes, heart conditions and other insufficiencies of adequate, abundant health. But what’s the best way to lose weight (fat)and to regain a healthy state of body composition? As you might have guessed, there are to be nearly accurate, thousands of specialized or Doctor/Guru-ized diets, procedures, dieting devices, miracle pills, powders and the like out there, all of which promise you they’ll help you get lean and sleek. Some of them actually work, but how can you tell which ones? How do you thread your way through the plethora of dieting on your way to a healthier, slimmer you, without setting off self-destructive behaviors that can incapacitate your dieting efforts? The answer to that question is this: Very Vigilantly. While persuasive and a little facetious, it’s nonetheless true. Some things are palpably false, fraudulent, misleading or simply prey on our innermost desires; for example, there’s no magic pill (never will be), grapefruit or otherwise, that can in an isolated form cause you to shed the pounds. New-fangled fad diets don’t work, and neither do most of the “scientific” ones that are so fervently promoted. Despite this, Americans are willing to spend more than $50 billion a year on fad diets and gimmicks, when in fact the most effective dieting advice comes down to this: Expend more calories than you consume! What I refer to as the two (2) Es, Exercise and Eat Right! Get it! To Ease!!! To ease all that ails us. This, we know is true; it’s just difficult to assemble the willpower necessary to belly-up to such an audaciously unpleasant proclamation. If you’re adamant about your health and well-being and want to attain real-results, keep this truth in mind You can lose weight and keep it off. Peranent weight loss can happen. The intention of this article is to help you along the way as you edify and develop the management skills necessary to achieve success by identifying the most common weight-loss myths that can perplex you during your expedition. We’ve left out the miracle claims and preposterous matter in favor of presenting more reasonable-sounding myths that an intelligent person might be beguiled and enticed by. Let’s start with the most omnipresent myth. #1 THE MYTH: Avoiding meals can assist you in losing weight faster. THE TRUTH: Erroneous, Incorrect and Blatantly WRONG! This is Taking The Low Road! It seems logical, just like its consequence (“the fewer calories you eat, the more weight you’ll lose”), but it’s not true. The effect is the opposite of what you expect. Dieting is based on the fact that if you burn more calories in a day than you take in, your body will begin burning fat. While this is true, if you expect to lose weight effectively, you need to maintain eating regular meals, especially breakfast. Depriving your body of its necessary fuel and nutrients causes it to go into starvation mode; when this happens, your metabolism slows down so that you can get by on little to no food. Once your metabolism slows, it can be quite difficult to bring it back up to momentum, and until it regains its pace, normal eating will just cause you to gain more weight. It can be a vicious cycle that’s excruciatingly difficult to break. In addition, bypassing meals can make you feel lightheaded and weak, can have venomous effects on your cholesterol levels, and can be extremely perilous for diabetics. In a nutshell, fasting and crash diets are forms of self-sabotage best avoided. What’s more, eating frequently (and moderately) will leave you less hungry throughout the day and cause a satiated effect, so you’re less likely to have or give in to your food cravings. #2 THE MYTH: Starches are Fattening. THE TRUTH: False and Unsafe. For one thing, it’s difficult to completely avoid starches, since they’re a major component of staples like bread, pasta, grains, fruits, potatoes, corn, and rice. Even if it were possible to cut out all starches, if you did so you’d be starving your body of the fuel it unconditionally needs in order to maintain proper body-system function. Food consists of only three basic substances or macro-nutrients: proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. Starches are carbohydrates; and carbohydrates, along with their metabolic products and core nutrients are your body’s basic fuel. Most of the fuel your body uses comes from a carbohydrate identified as glucose. Some glucose you might consume in the form of candy or sodas; some carbohydrates in substances like alcohol, quickly break down into glucose. Glucose is absorbed by your cells and used to run your bodily processes; any excess is stored in your liver or converted into fat, where it can be called upon at need. If your body lacks glucose, it’ll eventually start using any fuel source it can find. At first these might be fat cells, but as they shrink, your body may begin attacking the protein reserves in your muscles for the fuel it needs, referred to as catabolisys. This is a “last-resort” move generally saved for famine conditions, so if it happens to you, it’s bad news. The truth is that your metabolism by virtue of your circadian rhythm is better able to digest, to process and to assimilate certain food sources at certain times of the day Translation: Some foods are more efficiently assimilated at set points of the day because of the composition or complexity of the source and as our metabolism rises and diminishes throughout the day. More complex foods such as starchy carbohydrates become increasingly more difficult to fully take through the digestive process, without a diminished returns effect occurring and fat storage beginning. #3 THE MYTH: Vegetarian or Vegan diets are healthier than omnivorous diets. THE TRUTH: Not A diet (merely a regime of frequent consumption) consisting entirely of rice and french-fries, or of bananas and cheerios, can be considered vegetarian, but neither diet is healthy in the long run. If you’re careful, you can get by just fine on a properly balanced vegan or vegetarian diet, but you’ll have to manage your in-take very carefully. Vegetarian diets do tend to be high in fiber and low in fat, but the fact is that humans evolved as opportunistic omnivores. That is, our ancestors ate anything they could get their hands on: greens, tubers, bugs, and the occasional smidgen of meat and this dictated how our bodies today, still require nutrients for efficacy and fuel for performance, thats what we do Perform! Preferably Efficiently! Poor Physical Performance is what we simply call SICK!!! Emotionally, Physically, Spirituallywhat-have-you! The human body developed and evolved to expect a diverse and varied diet, one that could provide all the nutrients it necessitates in a variety of forms. Meat was an important part of their diet, perhaps the most important part because it was so uncommon. Vegetarians must always be sure that they eat enough protein; protein is easily available in meat, so few omnivores have to worry about getting enough, but it’s scarce in most plant foods. Fortunately, nuts, beans, and a few other vegetable products are ready sources of protein. If you go vegetarian, you’ll also need to be sure you get daily doses of Vitamin B12 and Zinc, supplements often missing in vegetarian diets. Most people can continue to exist as vegetarians if they’re extremely careful, but it’s a continuous mle, and guess what? You can be just as healthy and out-of-shape on a vegetarian diet as you can on a regular diet, especially if you don’t exercise regularly. #4 THE MYTH: Sweating facilitates weight loss. THE TRUTH: Absolutely If the sweat is exercise induced! Otherwise, all you’re doing is losing water weight. Sweating is astonishingly effective at doing what it was meant to do: cooling the body by glazing the skin with evaporative fluids. It was never meant to act as a weight loss system. Lose enough water, and you’re toying with dehydration. Dehydration or progressive dehydration can occur if you fail to rehydrate yourself sufficiently after every workout. If you get sufficiently dehydrated, your electrolyte balance will get out of whack, your cells will be starved of the fluids they need, and you could die. Not a happy prospect, so avoid it. For this reason, the old sweatbox and sauna are of no use for losing real weight. Neither are their modern “high-tech” equivalents, such as body wraps and plastic sweat suits, no matter how many people swear by them. All they do is dehydrate you. Yes, you lose weight: two pounds per quart sweated away. But that’s weight, not fat. And the moment you drink enough water, you’ll gain all that weight back. Like I have said Weight Loss is a LIE! #5 THE MYTH: Fat Free is Calorie Free! THE TRUTH: YEAH RIGHT!!! All “fat-free” means is that a particular food has no detectable fat content. Sadly, however, is that fat and its related compounds that give most foods their flavor. Ice cream, butter, cheese, and a whole host of non-dairy products, including chocolate, are little more than specially prepared, congealed fat. When manufacturers design many fat-free products, such as bread, cookies, ice cream, and the like, they know these products will be mostly dry and flavorless without fat. Some fat substitutes are available, but they can cause gastrointestinal upset, and most are expensive. This leaves one common ingredient that manufacturers can use to make their products taste better: sugar. And they use it liberally; so many fat-free products are high in calories. Furthermore, plenty of foods like breads and pasta are low in fat, but rich in carbohydrates and we already know what that means. Carbohydrates break down easily into our friend glucose, which can result in increased fat when consumed in excess. You always have to consider calorie and portion size; you’re fooling yourself if you do otherwise. Moderation is the key to dieting success Any long-term success for that matter. #6 The Myth: You Either Diet Or Exercise, You Cant Do Both Simultaneously! The Truth: Dont Get Me Started!!! Yesyou can do both together and you should, it is referred to as Synergy; the coordination of two effective components working concurrently to derive a greater benefit than if isolated. The dieting myths and misconceptions explored in this article represent just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. There are thousands of them out there: some are ridiculous and barely worthy of notice-like the suggestion that eating standing up helps you lose weight, or that you can base a diet on your blood type or color of hair-while others are less obvious, like those discussed here. Dieting isn’t easy and, while it’s human nature to look for a simple solution to a problem, that strategy just won’t work in this case. So heed these hints, and take it easy. Don’t skip meals, keep your diet properly balanced, and exercise regularly. Avoid all fads, pills, and extravagant claims, because if it sounds too good to be true…well, you know the rest. It doesnt take more than losing a few pounds before you’ll notice a difference in the way you look and feel. And, if you lose only a few pounds at first, even if you’ve been at it for a while, so what? Pick up a five or ten pound bag of flour and carry it around for a day, and you’ll see how quickly you’ll get tired of lugging that excess weight around. Application of sound methodology is always the most effective means to achieve any objective, with that said, if you want to truly shed those extra kilos of fat, then do yourself a favor and draw up a plan, combine all the necessary elements of success and execute that plan -Kurt Lee Hurley, Veritas Kurt Lee Hurley, President and Founder Partner of Synergy Fitness Systems LLC., Synergy Global Health Solutions LLC. and Creator of Integrated Variable Dynamics is a Nationally Recognized Fitness Expert, Celebrity Trainer, Multi-Certified Fitness Professional, Nutrition Counselor and Personal Empowerment Coach. Avoid The Frustration of Chasing The Wrong Family!

By Paul Duxbury I bet I know the answer to what those who are actively involved in discovering their family tree, which is otherwise known as genealogy, find most frustrating! I am sure that they will tell you that there is nothing more frustrating than spending hours and sometimes days researching only to discover that you have been looking at bad information or even in the wrong family! It is a problem that plagues everyone who has ever started to investigate their family tree and one that you should try to avoid. Obviously it wastes your time, it can lead you down long incorrect roads, and it can really be frustrating. So how do you avoid this pitfall? Well there is no one magic answer to keeping yourself from barking up the wrong family tree, but there are some tips that may help you end up on the wrong path a little less frequently. Take a look at these eight tips and you will lessen your frustrations as you seek out your family history and heritage. Firstly you should always keep track of all of your resources. When you get new information, write down where you got it. If it was a book, get the title, the author, publisher, and even the ISBN or ISSN number so that you will know where you got the information and where to get more if you find yourself in need of more information down the road from the same resource. If you get information from a relative, write down from whom you got it and when you conducted the interview. Information is a big part of this hobby so make sure you know where you are getting yours. Second, along those same lines, keep yourself organized. When you are organized you are less likely to mix up information and get yourself off track. Put together some sort of filing system, both for print and for your computer documents. That way, when you need a birth certificate you are sure you have, you will know where to look for it. Also, if you want to review information you have previously recorded, you will know exactly where it is on your computer or in y our files. Third, double check everything. That is, make sure that things make sense before you just assume they are right. For example, if your great, great grandmother was born in 1810, she probably did not get married in 1815 and was likely not a mother in 1820. The same goes for any other chronology of dates or events. Just always make sure things are making sense before you keep going down a wrong path. The fourth thing you should do to keep things straight is to be very careful about scams. There are a lot of scams out there that are designed to take advantage of those who are into genealogy. For instance, you may get the mail order brochure that offers to get you all the information you need on whatever family you are researching. Do not fall for this, since most of these are not researched and use only phone listings and other unreliable information to come up with what is supposed to be a family history. You are always better off doing your own research. In addition, remember that anything you hear about that sounds too easy, is probably a scam. Fifth, make sure you are very specific when you make notes and share information. Date formats vary from country to country so make sure you are clear about month, date, and year. Also, be very clear with your writing and with which names are surnames and which ones are given names. That way, when it comes time to ask others for help, everything is clear. Sixth, to keep things accurate make sure you are not assuming things about families and relationships. In earlier times, a step child was sometimes called a son in law or a relative that was not a sister or brother was called a cousin no matter what the actual relationship was. Seventh, in order to avoid following down paths you are not sure about, make sure you review and verify conclusions you have come to. There is often a lot of conflicting information within families as you do your research, especially if it from farther back. By taking time to verify, you may actually save yourself more time down the road. Finally, give yourself the opportunity to succeed by advertising the surnames for which you are searching. Post them online with genealogy websites and get the information to any genealogical societies to which you belong. If you do not belong to any, it is something you might consider since they often have resources you may not be able to get on your own. Genealogy is fun, but it can also be frustrating. To avoid the frustration of chasing bad information or the wrong family, follow these eight tips. You will enjoy genealogy much more when you know you are looking at correct information. Paul Duxbury writes extensively on Genealogy and has recently launched a new Genealogy site at http://www.discoveringyourfamilytree.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Paul_Duxbury http://EzineArticles.com/?Avoid-The-Frustration-of-Chasing-The-Wrong-Family!&id=175145 sugarland credit repair credit rating scores jacksonville bad credit used car loan where can i get a free copy of my credit report

Fighting Back Against Stretch Marks

By James Hunt Stretch marks are normal part of life. Most girls and boys will see the appearance of stretch marks when they begin going through puberty. Stretch marks will appear during this time because this is when children are growing. As they grow and gain weight quickly, they may get fine lines on their body, which are known as stretch marks. What causes Stretch Marks? Stretch marks appear when the tissue under the skin is being pulled or stretched by rapid growth or weight gain. The skin itself is fairly elastic but it can only be stretched so far before these lines will appear. When the skin is overstretched the production of collagen is disrupted. Therefore stretch marks will appear. What do Stretch Marks look like? Stretch marks themselves vary from person to person. When they first appear they may appear to be reddish in color. These lines will have a different texture than the rest of the skin surrounding that area. Stretch marks do not stay this color forever. Eventually they turn white or clear and in some cases are hard to see. They will almost always disappear over time as the skin adjust and stretches to fit the body correctly. Fighting back against Stretch Marks There are various things that people can do to reduce the appearance of stretch marks. One of the most common things today is the use of sunless tanning creams. People are using these creams to tan the skin and hide the appearance of these unwanted white lines on the skin. However, if you apply these lotions and the take tanning sessions the stretch lines will appear even more as they are not likely to tan in a tanning bed. Another possible solution is to use the various types of body makeup that are available today. There are many makeup lines that are being used to hide the appearance of stretch marks, or at least reduce the appearance in some way. James Hunt has spent 15 years as a professional writer and researcher covering stories that cover a whole spectrum of interest. Your Business is a Cereal Box: Attract, then Inform

By Cristina Favreau Cereal manufacturers know how to grab your attention: bright colours, simple and compelling messages (Source of 5 essential nutrients!!!), catchy headlines. What about the ingredient list with all the nutritional information? Thats on the side; easily found, but obviously secondary. The lesson: Ingredient lists dont sell cereal. Look at your business features as you would the nutritional information on a cereal box: people only look at it when they are already considering buying the box. It displays important information that needs to be communicated, but it does not answer the first questions in the clients mind. For service providers, marketing is a challenge: you know your service is useful and has value, but because you dont have a physical product, the benefits may be harder to define. After all, your client will only experience what you do once they actually hire you, which they wont do if the benefits of using your services are not convincing. How will you, as a service professional, deal with this fact? You must communicate with your clients by being focused on their needs first. Attract, then Inform I notice that many of my clients put too much emphasis on what they do instead of emphasizing why their audience should choose them over the competition or choose them at all. Note these claims: We offer a 90-day guarantee I have over 15 years experience in my field of expertise I give 10% off all first-time buyers Well set you a free e-mail account when you purchase our 1-year plan. Ill send you my 20-page report when you sign up for my newsletter My office is fully equipped to fill your needs. Ive done research in this field and found … I am a member of these organizations: … Whats wrong with these claims? Absolutely nothing, if they are true. In fact, these are features your clients should be aware of. They are part of what you are offering (the what of your business), but they are independent of your clients and their personal concerns. Benefits are effective in attracting people because they speak to what they can gain personally. Once you have their attention, then you can enhance your selling proposition with features. Features can close a sale, but they will usually not be your clients first point of entry. Your benefits should: Show the value of your services, Tell your audience what problems you will solve, and Describe what they stand to gain by doing business with you I vs. You In the features list above, notice how many times I, we, our, my, and me are used. People are naturally concerned with their own needs first. By presenting them with a list of reasons why you are so great, you are sending them the wrong message: that their needs are secondary to what you think they should know. Dont make the mistake of turning your marketing into a giant rsum of your accomplishments. Use words like you and your more often. Be your own client What do your clients look for? Try a little role playing: Pretend you are your own prospective client and objectively evaluate your communication material. Ask yourself: Would I buy from myself? What would keep me interested? What am I looking for? What do I really want? Learn from how you search the web: If you were looking for administrative help, would you be searching Google for 15 years of experience? Probably not. You would be more likely to search for terms like database entry or transcription services. If thats what you look for, chances are most of your clients will do the same. Give them what they want and organize your information accordingly. As you create any communication material, answer these questions: What is the value of my service? What distinct problem will my service solve? What will my client gain? What does my client stand to lose by not using my service? How will my client feel after buying/using my service? What pain will it take away? What goal will my client achieve? What desire does it fulfill? The answer may be different for each target market, so it is important to know who your prospective clients are before asking yourself these questions. Being completely objective about your own business is not easy; youve worked hard to build it and you know it inside out. Defining your benefits from an outside perspective can enable you to better understand how other people view your business. Getting a view of your own big picture is something a professional business coach can help you achieve. Whether you do it alone or get outside help, it never hurts to think about what you have to offer to potential clients. So, next time youre at the grocery store, stop by the cereal aisle and ask yourself: What are MY 5 essential nutrients? Copyright. Cristina Favreau. All rights reserved. Losing Weight with Green Tea

By John Gibb Green tea for weight loss…You cant avoid hearing the benefits of green tea being promoted wherever you go today. While some various supplements and nutrients have few scientifically proven benefits, green tea is different. Study after study seems to indicate that green tea offers excellent health benefits. Some marketers of health products are now linking green tea to weight loss, promoting and selling their green tea supplements as a “miracle” cure for unwanted pounds. Yes, green tea is showing promise in helping one lose weight, but is it a miracle worker? No. It may, because of its caffeine content, have a slight effect on speeding up your metabolism. Caffeine, however, is not really beneficial, and can even be detrimental to, health. So many nutritional supplements manufactures are now selling green tea in caffeine-free capsules, or decaffeinated versions of green tea. Green tea as an aid for weight loss, in fact, is, when it comes to the proven benefits of his nutrient, is just the tip of the iceberg. Studies have shown that green tea has an antioxidant 100 times more powerful than Vitamin C, and over twenty times more powerful than Vitamin E. Green tea may even be, according to some recent studies, one of the best nutrients in the fight against various types of cancer. Our conclusion: Using green tea for weight loss may appeal to you, but dont think you will get remarkable overnight results. Consider, however, that there are so-called weight loss supplements on the health market which can actually harm you. Green tea, no matter why you are taking it, is very beneficial to your health. The product we personally use called Total Balance, which contains green tea - http://www.natural-nutritional-health-supplement.com is the best supplement we have come across. Facial Hair Removal - Let me Count the Ways

By Paul Ghossain Facial hair removal can be done in a variety of ways. In the end it really depends on the individual and what they are willing to go through in terms of pain, time and money. Ok, maybe the earlier statement is a little too serious for someone that just wants to get rid of unwanted hair. Let’s take a look at some of the methods to remove unwanted facial hair shall we; Shaving with a regular razor is one of the most common methods by men but not so much by women. The big advantage of shaving is that it is cheap and quick. The downside of it is that you are more prone to cuts and razor burns. To add to the misery you would have to shave on a daily basis in order to keep the hair away. Waxing is another method that is commonly used by women and gradually becoming popular by men too. Generally, waxing is used in order to remove unwanted facial hair such as that on the upper lip. The great thing about waxing is that it keeps unwanted hair away for long periods of time due to the fact that the hair is removed from the actual root itself. The downside to waxing is that it can be painful especial when you do it for the first time. Besides that, it still remains a cheap and effective way of keeping unwanted facial hair for long periods of time. Tweezing is another effective method that is used by both men and women. The most common area for tweezing is the eyebrows. Generally it is not recommended to tweeze your whole face as it is very time consuming as well as be very painful. Tweezing can keep unwanted facial hair away for long periods of time because of the fact that it pulls the hair out by the root, if done properly. Electrolysis is also a very effective method for removing facial hair that can keep unwanted facial hair away for very long periods of time. Far longer that that of waxing. In order to accomplish this however, you would need to dig a little deeper into your pockets and have more time to spare (because of the multiple sessions needed in order for it to be effective). Want To Control Your Weight? Do Not Read This Unless You’re Ready To Implement These 2 Easy Steps

By Yuri Elkaim The ABCs of metabolism Its not rocket science, but knowing these basics about metabolism can help you launch a successful weight loss lifestyle. Lets start with some basic terms: Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR): the minimum number of calories your bodys vital organs need just to survive at rest. This accounts for 60-75% of your daily caloric expenditure. RMR varies from person to person and is influenced by such variables as lean body mass, height, weight, sex, age, diet, and stress. Activity: Whether it be at work, walking to and from the store, or engaging in physical activity this type of work accounts for 20-30% of your daily caloric expenditure. Digestion: Ironically, each time you eat food you actually burn calories. This type of expenditure accounts for 5-10% of your daily calorie output. Step 1: Exercise raises your metabolism and therefore helps control your weight. Considering that your RMR accounts for up to 75% of your daily caloric expenditure wouldnt it make sense to do things that will increase your RMR? Aerobic activity and strength training increase the energy demand on your body. This release of energy is referred to as burning calories. Strength training builds lean muscle that in turn burns up to 50x more calories than fat. This is key to long lasting weight control! Therefore, the more lean muscle mass you have, the higher your RMR becomes which in turn burns more calories, even while sitting on the couch. I like to refer to this as passive energy expenditure meaning that you dont need to do anything and yet youre still burning calories. Wouldnt that be great? Simply put in a bit of hard work up front and then reap the benefit in the long run! Step 2: Eating more often in smaller amounts helps increase your metabolism. As previously mentioned, every time you eat your body expends energy to digest and absorb what it has just ingested. This is known as the thermogenic effect of food. Therefore, wouldnt make sense to eat more often knowing that each time you ate you would actually be burning calories. Typically, it is recommended to eat anywhere from 4-6 small meals throughout the day or 3 larger meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) with small snacks in between. However, please remember that were talking about smaller meals that are healthy, well-balanced, and lower on the glycemic index. Not a burger and fries! So, here are 2 simple steps you can take immediately to help control your weight. Were not talking magic pill but if youre consistent with daily activity and eating frequent small meals youll see dramatic weight loss results in a just few weeks! Go for it. Weight of Marijuana and Criminal and Tax Law

By David Oppenheimer Conclusive research has shown that wet (uncured) marijuana is not psychoactive. Before drying, decarboxylation of inactive THCA acid into delta9 THC has not yet occurred. During the curing (drying) process, the COOH bonded to the THCA is released. The result is marijuanas psychoactive compound delta9 THC. The State of North Carolinas laws do not distinguish between the uncured weight of marijuana from the cured (dry) weight, necessary for marijuana to be consumed or sold. No one purchases wet marijuana at a price comparable to suggested market value because approximately 80% of this weight consists of water, both in the plant tissue and chemically bonded by carbon to the THC molecule. No one smokes fresh, wet, uncured marijuana because it cannot produce a euphoric effect. Decarboxylation must occur by drying prior to its combustion that occurs with smoking (this does not occur when attempting to smoke uncured marijuana), drying must also occur before eating marijuana, if it is to produce a euphoric effect. North Carolinas G.S. 15A-903(a)(1) allows the State to retain only a small random sample of marijuana to be made available to prosecutors and notably the defendants for the discovery rights. This deprives the defense of having all the evidence available to them. The actual weight of marijuana is an essential element of the criminal statute. The marijuanas weight is the primary factor in determining the NC unauthorized substance tax assessment. Mature stalks are found on all mature marijuana plants. The percentage by weight of marijuanas mature stalks can vary widely by different cultivation methods and by genetic variation. NC G.S. 90-87(16) clearly exempts mature stalks from being considered toward the weight of marijuana for criminal sentencing purposes. Mature stalks are exempt because the State has recognized that they have neither intrinsic value as an intoxicant, nor any noteworthy market value. Marijuanas shade leaves are a waste product for marijuana farmers. These leaves are not smoked, and are not psychoactive. Likewise, male marijuana plants do not produce smokeable buds nor THC (the psychoactive ingredient of marijuana). Marijuanas initial wet, uncured weight can be over 500% of the final, dried, consumable and marketable weight. Uncured marijuana cannot be bagged or jarred because without curing because it would mold, rot, and become valueless. The States weighing of water content in uncured marijuana has resulted in many citizens receiving far harsher imprisonment, taxes and fines. Marijuana trafficking in North Carolina carries a mandatory minimum 2-year sentence for anyone possessing 10 lbs. or more. One pound of marijuana may weigh 6lbs before it dries and is useable. Many small farmers end up with trafficking charges because of this discrepancy. I do not believe this was legislatures intent, nor is it just. The marijuana trafficking statutes, 90-95 (h) (1) section (a through d) , are all unreasonably harsh by commanding lengthy mandatory minimum prison sentences. At the very least, the weight of marijuana required to warrant adding a trafficking charge should be restored to its initial threshold of 50lbs, and should be dried, and shade leaves, stems and all stalks removed before weighing. Because of recent scientific proof showing marijuanas usefulness, and its benign non-toxic effects along with current attitudes toward marijuana, trafficking in marijuana should be removed from our current laws. Currently some citizens are being charged twice for the same 10 lbs., one trafficking count for cultivation and another for possession, and this is in addition to manufacturing and possession charges. North Carolinas Unauthorized Substance Tax Act, Article 2D 105-113.106 (6) has a different definition of what constitutes marijuana, divergent from North Carolinas Controlled Substance Acts definition found in 90-87(16). These statutes also differ in their definitions of exemptions of parts of the plant not to be considered as marijuana, respectively 105-113.107A - Exemptions and 90-87(16). N.C.s drug tax law 105.113.107(a)(1) commands for a tax of 40 per gram for stems and stalks that have been separated from and not mixed with any other parts of the marijuana plant. Yet the next paragraph, 105.113.107(a)(1a), commands for a tax of $3.50 a gram, or fraction thereof, of marijuana, other than separated stems and stalks taxed under subdivision (1) of this section. In 105-113.107A (b) (1), it states, “the tax levied in this article does not apply to the following marijuana: (1) Harvested mature marijuana stalks when separated from and not mix with any other parts of the marijuana plant. Any knowledgeable and reasonable person would assume that all stalks and large stems would eventually be separated from the rest of the marijuana plant. It is impossible separate the stalks prior to harvest, yet a reasonable person would assume that separation would eventually occur. Therefore, requiring mature stalks to be separated from and not mixed with other parts of the plant to qualify under NC 105-113.107A(b)(1)s exemptions seems far from reasonable or just. For example, the roots of the marijuana plant are exempt from tax liability under 105-113.107A(b)(4), whether separated or not. As mentioned, N.C. G.S. 90-87(16) clearly exempts mature stalks (separated or not), which is not considered marijuana by it’s definition. Article 2D 105-113.106(6) s provisions pertaining to growing marijuana are impossible to comply with, and should be considered unconstitutional. 105-113.106(6) defines marijuana as all parts of the genus Cannabis, whether growing or not and as stated before, 105-113.107(a) (1a) calls for an excise tax of $3.50 per gram of marijuana. N.C. Article 2D 105-113.109 (requiring payment during actual or constructive possession) is impossible to comply with concerning growing plants. Being a growing plant, its weight is changing continuously and therefore is unable to be determined accurately. Taking into consideration that a growing plant is attached to exempt growing roots, determination of the taxable parts weight is impossible to accurately assess. 105-113.109 also demands the drug tax stamps shall be permanently affixed to the unauthorized substance. Growing plants, especially outdoors, do not have a place to attach stamps where the plant will not outgrow and cause detachment. The excessive mandatory minimum prison sentences for marijuana infractions under the N.C. G.S. 90-95 (h) (1) section (a through d) are all based on the weight of the marijuana. Therefore, by not determining the cured weight without mature stalks of marijuana prior to destruction and independent inspection and concurred confirmation by defendants; defendants right to examine and test plants under G.S.15A-903(a)(1) and defendants State and Federal Constitutional rights to due process are denied by removing the chance of a fair and reasonable opportunity to investigate, prepare and present their defense. Destruction by the State of marijuana held as evidence, before an agreed weight between the State and defendants, also violates defendants’ right of confrontation under Article 1, Section 23 of the Constitution of the State of North Carolina. Mandatory minimums sentences should not be allowed for marijuana related offences. Past cases concerning the destruction of marijuana prior to independent determination of its weight have been ruled in favor of the State. In light of recent research and these new arguments, premature destruction of marijuana evidence by the State should not be considered actions taken in good faith, and considered violations of defendants rights previously mentioned. N.C. G.S. 90-87(16) needs to be amended to include plant moisture in the list of exempt parts of marijuana; this would more fairly apply the law by preventing unfair sentencing and fines. All stalks (mature or not), shade leaves, and male plants should be added to G.S. 90-87(16)s exemption list also. Article 2D 105-113.106(6) needs to reflect G.S. 90-87(16) by exempting all stalks (hemp fiber) separated or not, from tax liability. The valueless waste product, shade leaves, should not be taxed at $3.50 a gram and should be added along with male plants and most importantly the moisture of wet or non-dried marijuana to 105-113.107A and NC GS 90-87(16)s list of exemptions. Legalization through regulation and a tax makes much more sense than waging war against the citizens of our State. Marijuana does not hurt society, while marijuana laws are destructive to society by creating criminals out of otherwise hard working, tax paying, good people. Alcohol and tobacco abuse causes many health and social problems, while marijuana’s effects are relatively benign to individuals and society. Until the criminal aspect is removed from marijuana, reason and justice, are replaced by oppression and hypocrisy. Please make your voice heard. Insanity in the courts: in this drug tax case, Docket No 2002-683 (NC) (in PDF format) The State charged a citizen $39,654.72 for 1.9 pounds of marijuana by considering its initial wet weight (with some root balls) of 17.75 pounds. This demonstrates why are laws are unfair, harsh, and need to be revised. This tax case, NC Docket No 2003-269 May 19,2003 is an example of the State weighting dilute mixtures (in this case 20 pounds {9120 grams} of homemade chocolate fudge), resulting in a $44,847.60 assessment when including penalties and interest with no mention of the additional criminal charges. In the infamous case, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA v. BRIAN FRANK GONZALES NC NO. COA03-606 - June 1, 2004 the State appealed the dismissal of trafficking charges that were rationalized in trial court by charging him with the fresh wet weight of 25.5 pounds even though the SBI certified the marijuana’s weight at 6.9 pounds 1 month later. The State won this case in appellate court. It is now the duty of citizens of North Carolina to inform your State Representatives and schedule appointments with them, or at least call to tell them how you feel and encourage them to support changing the laws the way they are currently worded.
